The Sher Khan Foundation has a dedicated team that is responsible for the operation of the charity. 

Below are brief descriptions of the team, their roles, and details of any executive membership. 

Head of Health

Sofina

Dr. Sofina Begum is a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, and in addition now the Head of Health for the Sher Khan Foundation.

She received her medical degree from the University of Leicester in 2004. During that time she finished an intercalated BSc in cardiovascular science and went on to complete her surgical training in London.

Dr. Begum achieved her master’s degree in surgical science then went on to higher surgical training in Yorkshire. This included training in uniportal minimally invasive surgery (keyhole) for lung cancer and lung volume reduction. She is also trained in endobronchial procedures for airways disease and severe emphysema.

She brings a wealth of expertise to guide and lead health initiatives for the Foundation

Head of Education

Afia (Chair)

Afia has over 17 years management experience within the education sector and is a fully qualified teacher of Humanities and Citizenship Studies.

She currently forms part of the management team at an inner city comprehensive where she continues to teach Humanities alongside her role as an inclusion practitioner for students with special educational needs (SEN).

Along with Afia’s passion and dedication to the education sector, she has been involved in the charity sector for over 22 years, bringing a body of knowledge and skill to the Sher Khan Foundation, heading up the Education division of the charity.

Head of Shelter

Diana

Dr. Diana Nasir is a lecturer in Engineering Design at the University of Hull, UK.

Her research interests involve topics relating to sustainable technologies for built environment, urban heat island mitigation strategies, renewable energy harvesting, energy efficiency in buildings and indoor environmental quality factors such as air quality and thermal comfort.

Prior to her PhD, and subsequent research and teaching roles, Dr. Nasir has several years of experience in the construction industry as an architectural designer and a planning engineer (construction programme scheduler).

Her passion to improve construction standards and researching sustainable ways of building homes, allows her to bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Sher Khan Foundation.

Head of Operations & Project Delivery

Mo

Mo is a Business Agility Consultant who has a rich background in project management specialising in regulatory compliance, governance and control.

To date, Mo’s career has spanned 18 years working for both multinational organisations in the public and the private arena; specialising in the Legal and Financial sectors over multiple locations including London, India, New Zealand and Singapore.

His tenacious yet pragmatic approach to projects and programmes has allowed him to be involved on change initiatives worth over £650 million.

Mo is also a keen sportsman and actively involved with charity initiatives; including challenges such as summiting Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, and cycling from London to Paris, allowing him to bring a wealth of experience to the Foundation. 

Head of Finance

Shorif

Shorif has over 20 years experience within the finance industry leading teams within some of the UK’s largest financial institutions. His specialism consists of retail banking and wealth management focussing his attention with third sector clientele.

Shorif has received numerous awards in recognition of his success and track record in ameliorating underperforming divisions.

His experience has given him a wealth of knowledge regarding the banking sector which he uses to advise the Sher Khan Foundation on all finance related matters.
